Kerbing & Edging

Kerbing and edging covers the concrete, block or natural stone restraints installed along a driveway’s boundary — the physical containment that stops loose gravel or resin-bonded aggregate migrating onto a lawn or pavement, and the clean finishing line where a hard surface like block paving or tarmac meets a border, bed or neighbouring boundary. It also covers dropped-kerb work at the public footway, which is what actually allows a vehicle to cross from the road onto a converted front garden in the first place. A restraint that is undersized, poorly bedded or omitted altogether is one of the most common reasons a driveway’s edges fail years before the main surface does, so it is rarely a job worth skipping to save on materials.

Best suited to: any gravel, resin-bonded or loose-material driveway, plus front-garden conversions needing a new dropped kerb

Less suited to: as a standalone fix where the driveway’s actual sub-base has failed rather than just its edge

Permeable / SuDS: No — this is an impermeable surface by design, so drainage falls have to be built in at construction rather than relying on the surface itself.
